Dog Bites

Oklahoma law states that a dog owner is liable for the full amount of any damages sustained by an individual who is bitten or otherwise injured without provocation while lawfully on the dog owner's property or on public property.

Naturally, this begs the question, what constitutes being lawfully on the property of a dog owner? The law states that any person who goes on the property to perform a job such as a postal carrier or public utility worker, or a repairman who is invited on to the property by the property owner is lawfully on the property. In addition, any tenant who has a lease on any portion of the property has a right to be on the property. Public property includes all parks, playgrounds, public buildings, sidewalks and any businesses in which merchandise or services are offered for sale or use.

Posting a "Beware of Dog" sign is not enough by itself to help a property owner avoid being sued for damages in a dog bite incident. Contact Hawkins Law Firm to discuss any questions you have regarding a dog bite attack.

We Work to Maximize Your Recovery

At Hawkins Law Firm in Tulsa, attorney Phillip C. Hawkins understands the nuances of dog bite personal injury cases and knows how to maximize the amount of compensation a victim receives. Because dog bite injuries can be both physical and emotional, it is important to take the time to get a full medical report on the extent of injuries following a dog bite or any animal attack.

If the injuries are extensive, plastic surgery is necessary. If the victim is a young child, doctors may want to wait several years before performing the surgery. This is just one example of why it is important to work with a lawyer who will help you avoid taking a quick settlement and instead seek compensation that will cover the lifetime cost of the injury.

In addition, a dog bite may permanently scar an individual emotionally to the point where he or she is afraid of animals for the rest of his or her life. We will help you pursue compensation for emotional damages as well as physical injuries.

I've known Phil for over 4 years now and have always been very happy with his service to me. Anytime I had questions or issues Phil would always find me the answers I needed and always in a timely and professional manner. I never had a problem with him returning my calls even at odd hours. He was a tremendous help to me and still is and I was very pleased with the outcome. I fully understand that I was not his only client but he still always found time to talk to me when I needed him and to reassure me when I stressed over my situation. Angela Delaine

I had Phil Hawkins as my attorney on several cases and have been extremely satisfied with his services. Him and his staff kept me informed and up to date on every step. He was very professional and very knowledgeable on all my cases over the past 5 years. My future was looking pretty dim there for awhile because of my injuries and age but Mr Hawkins came through and I can now relax. I found him and his staff very polite, courteous and compassionate to my circumstances and the final results were very satisfying. Frederick Janiskee

I am very grateful for the support of the Hawkins Law Firm. It is not common to walk into law firm and be greeted by a dog! However, as it is only in a time of crisis that one needs to seek out the help of an attorney - I found this to be a very unique and helpful comfort! Not only did Mr. Hawkins take the time to address all of my questions and concerns; but the warm and welcoming environment of his law firm, along with his staff, made an otherwise stressful situation a overall less overwhelming experience.
